Ville de Montréal invites you to participate in the Environment Track of Coopérathon 2019. Environmental protection is becoming a major issue for peacekeeping and the sustainability of our economies. More than ever, climate change is a global issue. The preservation of aquatic and terrestrial life is the key to sustainable development and contributes to the fight against climate change.
Climate change is the result of human activities and threatens our way of life and the future of our planet. By fighting climate change, we can build a sustainable world for all, but we must act now. Several innovations can thus be developed to help companies and citizens to decarbonize their activities. For example, we can improve energy efficiency, reduce the carbon footprint of products, services and processes, set emission reduction targets, etc.
Forests cover nearly 31% of the planet’s surface. From the air we breathe to the water we drink to the food we eat, forests support us. Inevitably, our presence changes the ecosystem to which we belong, but we can choose to contribute to its preservation. For example, we can recycle, eat local food from sustainable sources, limit our energy use, participate in ecotourism activities, create protected areas, etc.
The oceans provide essential natural resources, including food, medicines, biofuels and other products. They help to decompose and eliminate waste and pollutants, and their coastal ecosystems act as buffers by reducing storm damage. To contribute to the health of the oceans, several challenges require the implementation of innovative solutions to deal with the presence of marine litter, the destruction of coral reefs and the overexploitation of marine resources.
In 2019, many environmental challenges remain. citizens:
fight against climate change;
adapt to climate change;
sustainable forest management;
combat desertification;
halt and reverse the process of soil degradation;
halt the loss of biodiversity;
conserve oceans, seas and marine resources;
sustainable use of oceans, seas and marine resources.
Together to develop a socially responsible future!
