It is time to rethink how we grow, share and consume our food. If done right, agriculture, forestry and fisheries can provide nutritious food for all and generate decent incomes, while supporting people-centered rural development and protecting the environment. Several innovations can thus be developed —at home, at work and in the community— to promote local farmers or markets, to make sustainable food choices, to support good nutrition for all, and to fight food waste.
Forests cover nearly 31% of the planet’s surface. From the air we breathe to the water we drink to the food we eat, forests support us. Inevitably, our presence changes the ecosystem to which we belong, but we can choose to contribute to its preservation. A profound change of the global food and agriculture system is needed to nourish today’s 800 million hungry and the additional 2 billion increase in global population expected by 2050.
