Background
Companies are increasingly aware of the need to reduce their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in order to limit their environmental impact. However, they face a number of obstacles: lack of knowledge, technological tools, financial resources and an appropriate regulatory framework. In addition, it is often difficult to integrate new solutions into existing systems without compromising cybersecurity or the sustainability of operations. Given this context, climate technologies (Climate Tech) are emerging as potential solutions to help businesses adapt to the effects of climate change, decrease their emissions, and thrive despite these challenges.
Challenge as part of Cooperathon 2024 – Startup Beta Journey
Goals
- Positioning KPMG’s impact in ESG: highlighting KPMG’s role beyond auditing, by positioning itself as a leader in sustainable development through technological innovation.
- Creating real value for companies and society: by helping companies to integrate sustainable strategies, KPMG aims not only to strengthen its own positioning, but also to foster the emergence of promising new solutions.
- Raising awareness and communicating: promoting the importance of placing sustainable development at the core of corporate strategies, by raising awareness among both management and stakeholders.
- Measuring and valuing impact: develop tools that not only measure GHG reductions, but also quantify the economic and environmental benefits of these initiatives.
Prize(s)
- 1st Prize: $5,000
Solution scope
Examples of sought-after solutions:
- GHG assessment and analysis tools: develop tools capable of calculating GHG emissions, valuing them monetarily and projecting the long-term economic benefits of their reduction.
- Action simulators: create simulators that enable companies to visualize the financial and environmental impacts of different emission reduction strategies, depending on their geographical and sectoral context.
- Integration technologies: technological solutions enabling GHG reduction systems to be implemented in existing infrastructures/buildings, while minimizing cybersecurity risks and ensuring adaptation in line with business strategies.
- Reliable data platforms: develop platforms enabling easy access to reliable data for better climate decision-making.
- Energy monitoring and optimization tools: develop solutions that enable companies to monitor and optimize their energy consumption in real time, with a view to reducing their carbon footprint.
- Carbon capture, utilization and storage (CUSC) solutions: develop innovative technologies to capture, utilize and store carbon in order to significantly and sustainably reduce GHG emissions.
