United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

The development of your solution must take into consideration at least one of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals.

In a world where social inequalities and environmental challenges are increasing, businesses have a key role to play in meeting society’s needs. A social impact business goes beyond the simple pursuit of profit by integrating social and environmental objectives into its DNA. However, many entrepreneurs struggle to balance social mission and economic viability.

Key issues:

  • Lack of business models adapted to impact businesses.
  • Difficulties in measuring and demonstrating social impact in a credible manner.
  • Lack of access to finance and resources for impact projects.
  • Lack of awareness and understanding of the concept of social impact business.

How can we develop innovative solutions that place societal impact at the heart of their business model while remaining economically viable?

  • Creating social and economic value: Innovative solutions that meet real needs.
  • Promoting inclusive and sustainable models: Equity, power sharing and reduction of inequalities at the heart of solutions.
  • Educate and raise awareness: Increase understanding of impact businesses among participants and the public.

  • Social entrepreneurs: Actors motivated by a social or environmental mission seeking viable and innovative solutions.
  • Impact investors: Funds or individuals willing to support companies that combine social impact and economic performance.
  • Community organizations: Potential partners to co-develop projects with a direct impact on their beneficiaries.
  • Innovative startups: Companies looking for a business model with sustainable impact.
  • Public institutions and NGOs: Key collaborators to maximize the reach of solutions.

  • Focus: Create solutions that address concrete social issues while adopting a sustainable economic model.
  • Solution Stage: Idea to Proof of Concept.
  • Geographic focus: Canada, with particular attention to marginalized or vulnerable communities.
  • Considerations:
    • The social and environmental impact must be measurable and aligned with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
    • Respect for the principles of equity, diversity and collaboration.
    • Financial viability and scalability.

  • 1st Prize: $5,000 (minimum)

  • Societal impact: Number of beneficiaries, improvement of social or environmental conditions.
  • Viability: Solid and reproducible economic model.
  • Scalability: Potential for replication in other communities or contexts.
